Airports
Airports operate within an exceptionally complex enterprise architecture, incorporating between 50 to 500 IT systems to support thousands of unique processes. Consequently, gaps often arise between the IT departments and system business end-users in terms of understanding operational processes. This disconnect can lead to unnecessary redundancies, failed system implementations, frustrated business users, and, ultimately, a less than optimal passenger experience.
To bridge this gap, we align IT and airport operations by engaging both parties to foster a common understanding of operations. We highlight the roles of people, processes, and technology within airports, in any operational area. This approach facilitates better strategic IT decision-making, smoother system implementations, and, ultimately, an optimized experience for the airport's customers, including both passengers and airlines.

Case study - Enterprise System Process Mapping

Overview
To enable strategic decision-making in the enterprise architecture team at a major North American airport, we mapped all of their operational processes and identified stakeholder actions, system actions, and KPI’s, in an easy-to-understand format. Additionally, we created a database of all of their systems from scratch and catalogued the connections between systems.
Impacts
Centralized
enterprise architecture in one location
Provided stakeholders visibility into interconnected systems
Readied the airport for sustainable system expansion
Compiled system connection data from engaged departments
Visualized all data in an interactive Power BI Dashboard
Reviewed processes with a broader team of managers
